Sports History

"It is the essence of sports that the individual must be rigorously and relentlessly tested not only so he might survive the stern demands of the game, but also that by the refinements of his skill he might contribute to making the game a pleasant and rewarding spectacle. This is so society in microcosm"

The Philippines is a sports loving nation.  Almost everyone enjoys attending sporting events. The color of the festive crowd, the high spirits, the spectacle of beauteous form or finely developed physique, all works irresistibly together to draw people to sports competitions.  Sports events, if properly conducted, can unite people to work for a common goal and build community spirit.  in the Philippines, an increasingly large number of sporting facilities are available.  likewise, more and more teams are being organized.  these are beneficial to the players as well as the spectators.  For the players it is a health recreation and for the spectators it is un exciting entertainment.

Spectators have an important role to play in proper conduct of a sports competition.  the behaviour of the games, the play can become very tense and charged with emotions.  if the  spectators cheer a good play and applaud exemplary sportsmanship, the players are less likely to box and push each other.  if spectators sit quietly during a free throw rather than stamp their feet, the game proceeds much more smoothly

in the university competitions the host schools can do much to insure friendly competition.  students newspaper can welcomed and best friend visiting teams.  during the game the students through their cheering can foster an attitude of fair, clean competition.  student newspaper can also help in promoting sports knowledge, stress courtesy to visiting teams, and publicize outstanding player sportsmanship, and accurately report sporting events.
